Funding for new commercial farming in Nova Scotia
Program Description
The Plant Your Roots program supports new ownership of commercial farms in Nova Scotia. Program funding helps improve the financial stability of beginner farmers in the first years of operation (based on a 4-year projected calculation of eligible loan interest on new loans).
Steps to Apply
1. Review eligibility criteria
2. Develop a business plan with a Business Development Officer or Agricultural Representative
3. Gather necessary documentation, including proof of farm registration and recent tax documents
4. Obtain loan approval and prepare a copy of the loan agreement detailing loan amount, purpose, amortization, interest rate, and fixed interest rate calculation
5. Complete the Program Funding Registration (PFR) form if new to Programs since 2023, or update the PFR form if a returning applicant
6. Submit a complete application within 6 months of loan approval and by the application deadline, including all required documentation and forms, to the Programs Division at the Department of Agriculture via mail, email, or fax
