What is this funding for?
Funding for mineral exploration in Nunavut
Program Description
Qualified prospectors may apply for a contribution of up to $8,000 per year to cover basic expenses while exploring for new mineral occurrences in Nunavut. This financial support applies to project-related expenses such as fuel, vehicle maintenance, food allowance while in the field, assistant wages, prospecting supplies, and mineral assay costs.
Steps to Apply
1. Obtain a valid Nunavut Prospector’s License from the Mining Recorder’s office in Iqaluit
2. Develop a basic plan for your prospecting project, including a map outlining the project area with UTM or Latitude/Longitude coordinates
3. Consult with the Resident Geologist to discuss your project and gather relevant information
4. Determine if your project area is on Inuit Owned Lands (IOL); if so, obtain the necessary access permits from the Regional Inuit Association (RIA)
5. Complete the Nunavut Prospectors Program Application for Funding form, providing details such as your contact information, prospecting license number, project name, land tenure, NTS map sheet, UTM NAD 83 coordinates and zone, project start and completion dates, and a description of your prospecting experience
6. Submit the completed application form to the Department of Economic Development and Transportation before commencing fieldwork
